Safety
The Metro Atlanta Street Hockey Association (MASHA) is committed to ensuring a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for all players, referees, volunteers, and spectators. This Safety Program aligns with MASHA’s Official Rulebook and operational standards to minimize risk and uphold a high standard of play.
A first aid kit is present at all league events.
Emergency numbers for 911 and Gwinnett County Parks are posted at the rink and provided to all captains.
In the event of serious injury or emergency, gameplay is halted and emergency response protocols are followed immediately.
In accordance with MASHA rules:
Players must wear a helmet, gloves, shin guards, and closed-toe footwear at all times.
Players with exposed metal braces must wear a mouthguard.
All goalie equipment must meet league safety standards.
Players who do not meet gear requirements may not participate until corrected.
Players are encouraged to bring water, especially in hot weather.
MASHA is a non-contact league as defined in Rule 5.1:
Checking, intentional body contact, and dangerous play are strictly prohibited.
Referees may eject players who violate safety rules or exhibit dangerous behavior.
Additional court safety procedures:
Rink and goal equipment are inspected before each game.
Hazardous conditions (e.g., slick surface, standing water) result in delays or cancellations.
Goalies may use protective padding and designated crease zones for added safety.
The MASHA Code of Conduct and Rulebook prohibit:
Verbal abuse, discrimination, and unsportsmanlike behavior.
Physical altercations, intent-to-injure actions, and repeated unsafe conduct.
Enforcement:
Referees are empowered to issue warnings, penalties, or game ejections.
Repeated or egregious offenses are escalated to the MASHA Board for review.
All such incidents must be reported via the MASHA Incident Report Form.
Any injury or misconduct must be reported as soon as possible using the official MASHA Incident Report Form.
Submissions are reviewed by the board and documented.
Patterns or recurring safety issues may result in policy updates or player discipline.
Games may be paused or canceled due to lightning, heavy rain, or extreme temperatures.
Players are advised not to play when recovering from known injury unless cleared to return.
This Safety Program is reviewed quarterly and updated as needed.
Rule changes impacting safety are communicated to all captains and players.
Feedback is encouraged and can be submitted to safety@mashahockey.com.
