The MASHA Mid-Season Recap—Winter 2026 Edition

We’re a couple weeks past the official midpoint, but who’s counting? Eight weeks of Winter 2026 MASHA hockey are in the books — along with three weather cancellations — and the playoff picture is coming into focus.

The Running Rebels (6-1-0-1, 13 pts) have been the team to beat, opening the season with six straight wins before the Fury snapped the streak in Week 7 and Panda Watch earned a 3-3 draw in Week 8 — the season’s first tie. Isaac Bagwell is the league’s most dangerous scorer, with a 5-goal, 7-point game in Week 2 that remains the best individual performance of the season. Mario Hughes has recorded points in every game he’s played, including a hat trick in the Week 4 OT win over the Fury. Mikole Hughes, Andrew Newett, and Carson Rivadeneira have all come up big in key moments. Brandon Thurmond leads all goalies in save percentage and GAA, highlighted by a .960 outing in Week 6. Currently on a two-game winless streak, but with a six-point cushion, first place is theirs to lose.

Panda Watch (3-4-0-1, 7 pts) refused to let an 0-2 start define their season, going 3-2-0-1 since and riding a three-week unbeaten streak into the final stretch. Perry Holcombe has been their most dynamic player, delivering consistent scoring and clutch goals all season. Chris Hamel has emerged as a go-to scorer with multiple multi-goal outings, Brian Saling delivered a 2-goal GWG performance in Week 7, and Mike Jennings has been a strong defensive presence anchoring the back end. Jeff Paré has come up big when it matters, posting .964 and .958 save percentages in back-to-back weeks to fuel the team’s surge. Playing with confidence and backed by strong goaltending, Panda Watch has the makeup for a deep playoff run.

The Fury (3-4-1-0, 7 pts) are the hottest team in the league, riding a two-game win streak after a 1-3-1 start. The turnaround started with Donald Kleckner‘s 4-goal game in Week 5, and the Fury haven’t looked back — beating the previously undefeated Rebels 6-3 in Week 7 and the Sharpshooters 4-3 in Week 8. Sean Fleming has elevated his playmaking with a 3-assist day in Week 8, Michael McChesney has been a steady two-way presence, and Greg Spivia stepped up with two goals in Week 8. Joey Whitaker has anchored the crease, peaking at the right time. The Fury are a team nobody wants to draw in the first round.

The Sharpshooters (3-5-0-0, 6 pts) opened the season with back-to-back wins and have the talent to compete with anyone. Will MacDonald has been one of the league’s premier playmakers, kicking things off with a 5-point day in Week 1 and producing multi-assist games all season. CJ Layer has been a consistent scoring threat, Ivan Vukov posted a 3-assist game in Week 8, and Danny Simons, Carter Daniels, and Jordan Byers have all delivered standout performances. Bob Kent has been a workhorse in net, highlighted by a .964 save percentage in Week 4. Looking to snap a four-game skid, but just one point out of second place with two games to go — the Sharpshooters still dangerous.

With three teams separated by a single point and two weekends left before the April 26th playoffs, the race for seeding is wide open. The MVP conversation features several strong candidates — Holcombe has been the engine behind Panda Watch’s turnaround, Kleckner has carried the Fury’s offense and sparked their hot streak, MacDonald has been the heartbeat of the Sharpshooters, and Bagwell and Mario Hughes have been the league’s most productive duo. Thurmond leads the top goaltender race. Every remaining game carries playoff implications — strap in for the final stretch.
